Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps.
