Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns.
