Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps.
